As the owner of several businesses in the Jandakot electorate, new WA Labor MLA Yaz Mubarakai says he understands the needs of small business operators and young families in WA.
With 90.2 per cent of the vote counted, Mr Mubarakai leads former Liberal Minister and leadership aspirant Joe Francis, with 51.3 per cent of the two-party preferred vote. This represents a swing of 19.7 per cent to Labor, one of the biggest seen at this this year’s state election.

“I am a local businessman who understands the needs and aspirations of the residents of Jandakot,” he said.
“My wife Jeri and I have two children, aged eight and eleven. We know the pressures young families are under and the increasing demands on family life.”
As well as his business acumen, Mr Mubarakai said he was well-placed to represent the interests of the community, having served as a City of Cockburn councillor from 2011 to 2015.
“I believe Jandakot needs a real plan to deal with congestion along local roads such as Jandakot Road, Armadale Road and the building of the North Lake Road Bridge,” he said.
“We need to invest in our schools, not slash their funding.
“I am committed to ensuring our community has the best health care possible that puts patient’s needs first.”
Mr Mubarakai holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Masters of Commerce, Graduate Diploma in Information Systems and a Masters in Business Marketing and Finance.
He is a member of the South Metropolitan Regional Council, Cockburn Rotary and the Tarmac Group.
