Simon Ward brings decades of experience working at the highest levels of state government to his role as CGM’s Associate Director, Government Relations.
Having worked within ministerial offices and government agencies, Simon maintains an extensive network of contacts across government, industry and politics. He has served as a chief of staff and senior advisor to three ministers within the Gallop, Carpenter and McGowan Labor governments, with a particular focus on consumer protection, housing, corrective services, Asian engagement and veterans issues.
Simon has also held senior strategy and policy roles in the Housing Authority, where he influenced the national affordable housing policy agenda to align with the high-level imperatives of the state government. His roles also involved maintaining strong engagement with industry and government stakeholders to advance the State Affordable Housing Strategy.
Before joining CGM, Simon most recently held advisory roles at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, as well as the Road Safety Commission.
Simon’s experience and accomplishments within government have given him a keen understanding of the decision making process within departments and ministerial offices, and an appreciation of the information required to inform this process.
Simon holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Curtin University majoring in Political Science and History.
When he’s not at work, Simon enjoys listening to music and spending far too much money growing his collection of vinyl records. He also enjoys watching sport, particularly the cricket and his favourite football team, the Perth Glory. In summer, he can be found playing cricket for a relatively short amount of time compared to the time it takes to recover.
